World of Outlaws and more invade Thunderbowl Raceway this Friday and Saturday
World of Outlaws and more converge at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare this weekend
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – March 7, 2022…It’s been an annual tradition to host a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series double-header in the early season at Stone Chevrolet Buick GMC Thunderbowl Raceway. For the first time since 2019 however, that will ultimately come to fruition this Friday and Saturday.
In what seems like yesterday it is nearing 20-years since the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series made its first ever visit to Thunderbowl Raceway. The inaugural event occurred in September of 2003 when 20-time series champion Steve Kinser of Bloomington, Indiana scored victory over Aliquippa, Pennsylvania’s Tim Shaffer and local favorite Jason Meyers of Clovis.
The most recent appearance in 2019 saw Australian veteran Ian Madsen pick up his first career Thunderbowl Raceway victory over Owasso, Oklahoma’s Daryn Pittman and Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild. Madsen earned a clean sweep of the night en route to the big triumph. The Thunderbowl is set to be stops six and seven on the season for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
The Western RaceSaver Sprint Cars will be the companion class on Friday night, while the Kings of Thunder Winged 360 Sprint Cars play that role on Saturday.
“We’re thrilled to finally have the World of Outlaws back at Thunderbowl Raceway this weekend,” said track promoter Steve Faria. “Along with the Outlaws we’ll also present the Western RaceSaver 305s on opening night and the Kings of Thunder Winged 360 Sprint Cars on Saturday. If you’re a Winged Sprint Car fan, it’s an event you’ll want to check out. It should be a great season in Tulare and we look forward to having some major events once again with the Peter Murphy Classic opener in May and of course the 28th Trophy Cup among others.”
Tickets are on sale for the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series weekend on March 11th and 12th and can be acquired by calling 559-688-0909. All seating in the house is reserved, with grandstand tickets $50 each night and bleacher tickets $45 both nights. Kids 6-12 are half price and those 5 and under are free.
If you choose not to purchase your seats ahead of time, don’t worry, as there will be plenty of walk-up tickets available at the track on race day. The speedway has never sold out of seating.
The Stone Chevrolet Buick GMC Thunderbowl Raceway continues to operate as a special events venue with 15 total nights of racing on 11 weekends throughout the year. Along with the World of Outlaws doubleheader, the Peter Murphy Classic opener and 28th annual Trophy Cup remain as showcase events at the one-third mile clay oval. New this season on October 15th will be the inaugural “Dennis Roth Classic” featuring the NARC 410 Sprinters and KoT Winged 360s.
